What Is My Spiritual Gift?
What Is My Spiritual Gift?

We are all gifted by the Holy Spirit. He may not have given us that ability to sing or paint or quilt, but He has given us all a spiritual gift. And we are to use that gift to grow the Kingdom of God. If you do not know what your spiritual gift is, here is a story that can help you figure it out:
This is called the Apple Pie Story:
Imagine you are at a table with a bunch of people, and someone is about to eat a slice of apple pie. That slice of pie is on the edge of the table, about to fall off. But they put their fork in it anyway and it falls on their lap. What you do next is going to determine what your spiritual gift is!
If you say, “wow I sure saw that coming!” - Then you have the gift of
prophecy.
If you say “oh no, let me help you clean it up, here is a napkin!” - Then you have the gift of
serving.
If you say, “I’ve researched this, and let me explain to you what you need to know about eating apple pie in order to not let it spill on you.” - Then you have the gift of
teaching.
If you stand up and shout out to everyone in that restaurant, “Let me have your attention. For all of you who are about to eat a slice of apple pie, let me warn you what might happen if you are not careful.” - Then you have the gift of
evangelism.
If you say, “You know this happened to me one time, and everything turned out ok, do not worry about it.” - Then you have the gift of
encouragement.
If you say, “Oh here take my pie - in fact here is an apple pie for everyone!” - This you have the gift of
giving.
If you say, “We can get this cleaned up in no time. You need to go get a napkin. You over there next to her need to take the dirty dish away to the kitchen. And you over there across from her need to go get her a new slice of apple pie.” - Then you have the gift of
leadership.
If you say, “My heart sank for you when that fell in your lap. I hurt deep down for you and I am devastated this happened to you.” - Then you have the gift of
mercy.
If you say, “Oh let me have you come to my house next time to eat apple pie, and I will make sure you enjoy it instead of spilling it.” - Then you have the gift of
hospitality.
Hope you enjoyed that little story and saw yourself in one of those!
But the bottom line is that we all have spiritual gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit. They can be considered things like talents, such as singing and playing an instrument, but they become spiritual gifts when we use those talents for the Lord and to grow His Kingdom.
